Kedartal at a height
of 4901m, is one of the loveliest Himalayan
lakes. Nestling among the Bhrigupanth, Thaley
Sagar and Jogin group of peaks, this large emerald
lake is born of the melting snow of the Kedar
glacier. The over flow of the gushes through
rocky terrain as the Kedar
Ganga, melting the
Bhagirathi at Gangotri. Comming from the direction
of Kedarnath, it is considered to the
Bhagirathi.
|
|
|
|
| The
trail to Kedartal begins from the back of the
PWD Inspection Bunglow, and follows the right
bank of the Kedar Ganga. A 7.5-km trek through
balmy pine forest leads one to the meadow campsite
of Bhoj Kharak. |
 |
The bark of the Bhoj trees,
was used for ancient manuscripts. After a hazardous
4-km trek, through an area prone to rockfalls,
one can rest at Kedar Kharak. Another 5-km long
steep ascent leads to Kedartal, its calm surface
reflecting the surrounding peaks. Crossing the
ridge one can return along the Rudragaira Gad
crossing a bridge to reach Gangotri. |
