About 3 kms. from Baijnath, the main highway goes to Bageshwar and a side road branches off to Gwaldam. This is delightful route as besides the presence of birds, adding a winsome note, one passes through terraced field and thick pines set against a backdrop of the Himalayas, and one can watch the Trishul peaks coming even closer. Gwaldam with its salubrious climate is a little heaven nestling in the words. In this area, upto Talwari, there are several orchards - generally of apple.
From Gwaldam, the road winds its way through dense forests and terraced field dotted with rustic cottages of small towns known as Tharali and Narayan Bagad to meet the Ranikhet - Pandukhal road at a place called Simli, which is 8 km. short of Karanprayag.

Excursion

Baijnath
Just 29 km. from Gwaldam are located the famous temples of Baijnath. Buit by Katyuri rulres, these temples have over the time become synonymous with India's rich mythology. Here a cluster of temples hold in their fold beautiful idols of Goddess of Parvati Chiselled in black stone. Innumerable tales of Lord Shiva and Parvati make these temples a fascinating experience.
Kausani
Nestling amongst thick, dense pine forests, atop a narrow ridge and separated from the towering mountains of the Nanda Devi  range by low, medium mountains, at Kausani the grandeur of the Himalayan scenery comes alive. The view of snow covered Trishul and Nanda Devi is so clear that one gets a feeling of the snows being within touching distance.
Bageshwar
The quaint town abounds in religious legends, festive happenings and mind blowing surroundings. Famous primarily as a prominent Shivaite delight. Bageshwar has its share of patriotic expressions and picturesque interludes. Situated on the confluences of Gomti and Saryu rivers.
